My first post!

So this is my first post on the U.S. Embassy Dublin blog! My name is Diarmaid Keane and I am charged with managing the Embassy’s social media outreach. So next time you see a tweet or a Facebook post from us, don’t be shy about getting back to us, we would love to hear your feedback. This blog will be a snapshot of what we do here at the Embassy, what our Ambassador, Dan Rooney, is doing and hopefully will give you a unique insight to all of the interesting events that we are involved in.

Science – Every year we choose a certain theme for our public events. Since Dublin holds the illustrious title as European City of Science, we decided that science would be our main focus. Look out for some exciting events this year with a science link – We have already brought over an astronaut from NASA, Shane Kimbrough, who spoke in different parts of Ireland about life in space. Shane was a Mission Specialist on STS-126, which launched on November 14, 2008. During the mission, Shane participated in two spacewalks, for a total time of 12 hours, 52 minutes in EVA. While he was here, Shane helped launch our ‘Captioning Space Camp’ competition. It gave three secondary students and one teacher the chance to go to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. The students had to caption a space themed image and the teacher had to write a lesson plan on teaching space to students. The four leave for Hunstville in July and we will keep you up to date on their experience at Space Camp!

So expect some fun images and videos here and for regular updates on what is happening in the U.S., the White House and Embassy Dublin keep an eye on our Twitter (@usembassydublin) and Facebook (U.S. Embassy Dublin) feeds. Talk soon!
